I said they're "weird" because I've met Chinese Maoists and a Kazakh communist who join and either keep to themselves for every single meeting or offer their viewpoints which aren't at all in sync with the D.SA

Well tbf the entire Prison-Industrial Complex is immensely important for maintaining US imperialism (something like 90% of ammo made for the US military is made by prison labour), this is one of the few things the D.S.A. does right IMO.

Only reason I hold out for cops is that their revolutionary potential is small but if they managed to gain some amount of consciousness it’d be monumental. Think the Russian revolution or the Yellow Vests when the police threatened to turn coat if their demands weren’t met.
In a time of utter crisis I wouldn’t entirely count out the police to cross over.

American police are very different to police services in other countries: what turns security personnel against capital is capital abusing them as human beings. Now in different countries this could be in different ways: I'm a bong and I'd say the opposite is true, the police are far more likely to join a proletarian movement than the armed forces, in France they have a unique separated between police roles and forces so a riot-officer never does a regular beat.
When it comes to America, your police is unique in its deverence to capital and capital going out of its way to suck their dicks, especially when they clearly violate the law. As such, the police have little to no chance of revolting against the rule of capital.

In the event this is not sarcastic, I mean just looking at how Capital actively attacks the police in my country (on behest of the freemasons [no that isn't a fucking joke]) made me realise you have to be a lot more analytical than "policemen are just abused proles" or "ACAB XDD". Capital in the UK used to rely heavily on the police to break strikes in the 1980s but now it has actively reduced their numbers and stripped powers in favour of the intelligence services: capital's perceptions of what the state needs to support it can change and their attacks on various elements of the bourgeois state should be used as a probe by leftists: Lenin did it with the army, the Communards with the Garde Nationale, the Spartacists with the Navy ect.
But when you look at the relation between American Capital & the state and the American police forces you see one where capital goes out of its way to protect law enforcement, although the same is not true for military members: you will see plenty of homeless vets but never a homeless cop.

These are essentially people who have been killed, traumatized and thrown on to the street so that the bourgeoisie can make more money off of oil. By nature of our ideology we must oppose their profession, but they're not demons beyond human faculties for reason and emotion. Ideally bringing police over to our side (whilst not compromising an inch on the necessity for revolution overturning the current bourgeois state apparatus) would be a good thing.
Even the Bolshevik revolution, IIRC, won in part because underpaid and dissatisfied soldiers joined the Red Army, we shouldn't just leave these groups to Fascists.

You can't bring cops over without compromising. That's the issue.

Laws vary but cops are actually allowed to not arrest someone for a crime they commited. Only legal exceptions is usually for things like murder and I think rape. Worst that could happen is being fired if it's found out they do it too frequently. So I can see how leftists joining police can be useful in that they can oppose some laws by not enforcing them.

Dude how many cops have you actually met? I agree that the main problem is the profession and its role upholding property, but cops are not "like anyone else." They are overwhelmingly more sadistic, cowardly, and tyrannical. Even the "good ones" have to look the other way when their buddies commit police brutality. Any decent person who becomes a cop without realizing what they got into somehow will end up walking away before very long once the illusion is broken.

ACAB does send the wrong message because it blames individuals and sidesteps the systemic problem, but it's also not wrong about cops as individuals.

I've met a few in my life; sometimes pulling me over, in another case they were the parent of a friend of mine, all of them nice enough people. Though I will consider myself lucky to say I've never had an encounter with any of the bad ones yet, I don't think their existence denies the existence of the nice ones.

Point being, I'd rather we make the effort to speak towards them rather than create a partisan divide that perfectly pits all our enemies against us when we can't even unify ourselves.
