How come people who were formerly brought as slaves for horrible farm work, who were freed just in time to get the short end of the industrial revolution & the great recession & now the collapse of the american system.

It's not clear why giving black people reparations is better than, idk, fixing our really awful education system in poor neighborhoods that disadvantages black people, giving them healthcare, job training, better policing - maybe ones that are less trigger happy, etc. There are a million problems in this country that, were they resolved, would help them a lot more than a lump sum payment or whatever.
