Nothing wrong with being a children's author. It's certainly no worse than romance or, well, horror for that matter. King couldn't make it as a children's author, he's too boring and long-winded.
I'm not saying that I like children's fiction, mind you, but I can appreciate that it's not easy to write stuff that'll keep kids' attentions especially when you're competing with minecraft and other smartphone crack.
