I know for sure soviet army food was so bad it originated a few memes like "polar bear's meat" (pieces of lard instead of the actual meat) and "bromine for erectile disfunction" (soldiers were so protein malnutritioned they believed in a myth about special bromine drugs making their penises faint). North Korea has way higher population density, is more isolated and poorer that ussr.

MREs are shit because many of them seem like side dishes combined into a meal. Most of the euro MREs or 24-hour rats seem to contain more actual food. Don't know if burger soldiers could stomach pilot bread and pate though.
Also they are heavy as fuck and quite large for what they contain, probably due to the cardboard boxes. I'd like to see 3 MREs next to a Russian IRP for size.

Chinese rations are shit, and they have more farmland and a much bigger economy. North Korea is poor, cars are almost nonexistent, they're under sanctions and trade embargoes from most of the planet, few resources besides coal, and they've suffered multiple famines the last thirty years. Malnutrition is such a chronic issue that the average North Korean is significantly shorter than the average South Korean, an average of 3 inches shorter.
