The Size of the Universe

Is anyone else unsettled by this? What should we make of this? What would Christ and the apostles say if questioned about it? What if there are humanoid aliens?

Not me
That we're small humble creations of God
Christ would say "I made this and bring order to this and this shall be your inheritance if you follow me" The apostles would probably just use it to demonstrate how grand God is.
There isn't (or they're demons).

No. Though I do enjoy Lovecraft's work of existential horror, I don't let it affect me. Azathoth, Cthulhu, the Red Dragon, the beast, all don't scare me.
Why?
Because the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

As big as the universe is, it's still small next to God's infinite love.

If they aren't sinless, they must have experienced a fall and need Christ. Assuming he has not already visited them in some way. I think meeting aliens would not be a huge challenge to Christianity. It never says in the Bible there is no other life out there. Assuming they must be demons would be a problem.

No
Nothing
They said that all that was and will be ours if we will be with God and wont be prodigal sons
Thats nothing to be concerned about

Also, overall, basing something on this is simply stupid. The fact that humans are made in image and likeness of God, makes single human life infinitively more important than rest of the universe.

That is heresy according to the V Ecumenical council

Earth is the center of the universe suggested by this cosmological enigma:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_of_evil_(cosmology)

Religionism is based on the idea that humans are somehow significant and the center of the universe. Just read Genesis 1, the earth and stars/planets/moon under the dome is all there is and the only thing else are the waters of chaos above. Of course, with the advent of reason and science we now know we are not the center of it all and that we are very insignificant. This has pushed all the deities and religions back, but of course modern day religionist can't accept the idea that their worldview has been entirely disproven. The fact of the matter is though that humans are not special, there is no divine watching over us, there is no real meaning. I hope my fellow religionists humans will come into the 21st century and see this and stop praying to their imaginary friends, especially the anons on this board. You are adults, why do you believe in these things?

...

Physically we might be small, but in terms of how much information it takes to make us, we are much larger than anything else in this world - humanity is without a doubt the cutting edge of all order in the universe. How hard is it to make a functional universe from literally nothing? How hard is it to make life from literally nothing? How hard is it to make language from literally nothing? Yet we need all these massive leaps in order to make us.

I literally believe that we live in a geocentric system anyways, so I think all the rest of the universe is just there to inspire artists and reflect Gods magnificence.

I believe we live in a me-centric system. Everything in the universe is always around me, but I'm never around anything. Everything in the universe is determined by its relationship to me. My coffee cup is 2 feet from me! Mars is 140 million miles from me! It's nice knowing that the universe revolves around me.

Yes Goy! Now go watch porn and smoke weed.
also

looking at the origin point of science, most attribute it to Copernicus' work on the idea that the earth revolves around the sun. In other words science was spiritually formed from the idea that humans, on the Earth or in the Solar System, are not privileged observers of the universe. One can easily infer from this that we don't matter.

However I don't believe in science because of it's spiritual assumptions, because that would be irrational. I believe science in so far as it actually makes sense. When you say something spiritual as though it is proof, it's ridiculous because I don't give a shit about your beliefs.

I get the feeling that a lot of science doesn't make sense to you. Maybe try getting through high school.

me btfo, how will I ever recover?

>(((my fellow humans)))

I think we should notice that since the "pale blue dot" image was published and as we have made further strides in space, humility has not increased proportionally to our knowledge of our physical smallness. I think that this fact speaks volumes about the human condition, many more volumes than the image "pale blue dot" itself speaks.

This is actually pretty feasible worldview if the observable universe is isotropic.

We had this exact thread five weeks ago. To reiterate, the size of the universe is as important a detail to the grand scheme of things as is the difference between a red apple and a green apple. It's only your preconception that "big=important" that makes you beg the question—a preconception which has no real basis; it's just sentimentality.

*I'm euphoric.*

Not unsettled at all, rather assured. What force could create such a wonder out of nothing expanding into nothing?

There's something very freudian about getting upset about the size of the universe
