The way they get around this verse is they claim that they are only calling priests "father" in their capacity as substitutes for Christ, so they are actually only calling God father.

You also cannot be a catholic without opposing jewish crimes and you can not be a Christian if you put down the old testament. There is only one truth, everything afterwards is based on corruption. Christ was simply asking his disciples to be humble, unlike the Pharisees and scribes who sat in Moses' seat, drank the finest wine, wore the finest clothes, and otherwise held themselves in high regard. If we were to be as literal with the following verse, we would call no one on Earth but Jesus Christ "teacher", and yet I don't see Protestants rallying outside of schools with Matthew 23:10 signs.

It says "call no man YOUR father upon the earth", and in the KJV the word "you" is plural, while "thee/thou" is singular. Jesus was talking to "the multitude, and to his disciples" (Matthew 23:1), and because He used the plural form instead of the singular we know that He is talking about multiple people all calling one man who is not their father, "Father" as a title.

Ok let me try to explain this again because you obviously didn't get it. Jesus commanded A GROUP to not call one man their collective father. THAT GROUP has one Father who is in heaven, to call a man the father of THAT GROUP would be to put him in the position of God as the Father of a group of people not related by blood. It has nothing to do with calling your biological father by what he is, because in doing so you're not placing him in the position of God you're just calling a spade a spade.

Jesus was commanding that God, the Father, be acknowledged separately in His Divine Personhood. It could not be applied to blood-relations, for obvious reasons; neither can we then take your claim because the Apostles themselves frequently referred to their catchumen as spiritual children in the Bible itself.

When Catholics call the Pope Holy Father, they are paying respect to the institution, they are not considering the Pope 1:1 with God, the Father.
