Yes - it's rather unfortunate that the only use ports have on OpenBSD is compiling it from source. But, I don't really need to customize packages (I have zero bloatware on my personal computer - this means no modern browsers). On a different note - Portmaster is written entirely in shell script, I think Portage should have been the same way (I hate Python).
I personally hated openbsd when I tried it and loved freebsd. OpenBSD seems to break everything but the default installation and oh boy that ethernet configuration... jesus christ.
Eh, you can customize ports if you just edit the Makefile. In the past I customized Lynx by simply adding some of the configure arguments to port's Makefile.

I hate the GPL for those reasons, and I think Linux will go down the drain definitely once Torvalds retires in 10 to 20 years time, and perhaps sooner with the encroachment of ShitstemDicks and DunceAudio. Where can I find a guide to OpenBSD (for example) aimed at loonix users? e.g. what's the equivalent of /dev/sda, how to change the console font, etc.

There's nothing specifically tailored for Linux users, but there are good introductory books that explain everything: Absolute OpenBSD The Book of PF

I'd use a BSD if there was a way to use it as a Gentoo-like source distribution. OpenBSD doesn't even have port configuration, unlike the other BSDs. And the others BSDs don't have a way to update all ports (maybe synth for free/dfly?).
