Didn't they impose no fly zones and also targeted Libyan tanks?
With the French being the first to start with the raids.
How did Libya fall?
Why did Libya fall though ? In the Iraq thread someone is talking about Sarkozy, but the reasons seem kind of shaky (Sarkozy took money from Gaddafi and broke some laws by doing that so he had to cover his tracks apparently). They also mentioned Françafrique. What is that and how does it work ? I don't think Libya was a former French colony.
Fuck this oligarch piece of shit. Yes, Gaddafis blood is on his hands, as well as millions of Russians. He stole trillions from Russia and stole into western banks, who in turn used Russian money to bomb Libya and Syria as well as financed maidan nonsense. Had he not stole from Russia but invested into industry and science, there would be no war in Libya or Syria. Fuck I hate pootin and oligarchy that has occupied Russia.
I know the no fly zones claim is true. And yeah, France had a big role to play.
Libya wasn’t a French colony but French influence still reigns supreme in Africa. Gadaffi was threatening to upset that by introducing a gold backed Dinar and trying to build closer ties with African countries which would bolster them against French imperialism.
They bombed the ever living shit out of Libyan forces to the point of France and the UK running out of their stock of certain weapons
like other anons said, after that it was mercenaries brought in and later on turn coats who saw which way the wind was blowing or were paid well to switch
A lot of good answers here, so to sum up. nato bombed Libyan forces and nato paid mercenaries did the rest.
True,I was a child back the, but I remember the news about the no.fly zone, the "muh civil protest or we destroy u" and finally the bombardments.
"The United Nations Intent and Voting was to have "an immediate ceasefire in Libya, including an end to the current attacks against civilians, which it said might constitute crimes against humanity … imposing a ban on all flights in the country's airspace – a no-fly zone – and tightened sanctions on the Gaddafi regime and its supporters." The resolution was taken in response to events during the Libyan Civil War,[20] and military operations began, with American and British naval forces firing over 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles,[21] the French Air Force, British Royal Air Force, and Royal Canadian Air Force[22] undertaking sorties across Libya and a naval blockade by Coalition forces.[23] French jets launched air strikes against Libyan Army tanks and vehicles.[24][25]" (Idk how to use green text)

How did switch to the African dinar threaten France ? I thought Libya was using the dollar to make oil transactions like other oil producing countries.
They had no boots on the ground.
