Look at the bottom articles. You say they were just guessing the Jewish population to be around 6 million as they had no means of conducting a proper population survey (even though there were exhaustive populations surveys at the time).
But even if there were no exhaustive surveys, had did these articles come to the 'only 1,500,000 Jews left number? Just random guessing on no available data?
