If anything, I'm grateful that we're still at the point where someone like Francis can be the pope. If the average lay Catholic was pope, we'd already have the church ordaining women, doing away with clerical celibacy, permitting contraception and preaching universal salvation

Christ was simply asking his disciples to be humble, unlike the Pharisees and scribes who sat in Moses' seat, drank the finest wine, wore the finest clothes, and otherwise held themselves in high regard. If we were to be as literal with the following verse, we would call no one on Earth but Jesus Christ "teacher", and yet I don't see Protestants rallying outside of schools with Matthew 23:10 signs.
